Nos ha llegado la triste noticia del fallecimiento de Carlos Sotelo Fernández. Doctor Ingeniero Industrial, pionero industrial en Catalunya y uno de los inventores de los grandes scooters, tuvimos la suerte de conocerlo a traves a Carlos, su hijo. Nuestro sincero pésame a su família. Descanse en PAZ.

EICMA 2011 Milan, Italy
It´s been a good while since we´ve posted news here… we´ve been going throw a transition periord and are now back to a normal work rhythm. There will be activity going on in the following weeks.
To start off we would like to show interesting vehicles that we spotted at the International Motoryccle show in Milan last week. In general the show seemed to have much better quality than Cologne last year. BMW presented its production Maxi Scooter models, Husqvarna had beautiful design concepts ranging from Cross Country bikes to Enduro classics. Piaggio showed a Retrofuturist Vespa that was very eye catching… and a radical muscle motorcycle by CR&S.
As well, the fruits from the collaboration between Vmoto-Emax and IED Barcelona was exhibited at the Vmoto Stand. Sergio, from the studio proposed and tutored the project, having as faculty support Robert Thompson and Sergi Sans.

Design Sprint…
Just a little something to share to the community, as it is rare for use to get such freedom in our daily workload. These images are out interpretation of a Competition Brief formulated by Local Motors in conjunction with Intersection magazine. The main idea was to create a Resort Runabout Vehicle, that would be all-terrain and had a human power factor as an option. One of the two concept was ranked 4th… close, but no cigar. We had fun though, and got ourselves out of the routine giving us a flashback back when we were students!

120D Delivery Scooter – Studio Shoots
It´s been a few months since the Vmoto powered by Emax delivered the 120D to the Spanish Postal Service, and a couple that at 4-id finished the new catalogs of Vmoto´s electric vehicles. But recently they have been posted in Vmoto/Emax website, so we´d like to share that with everybody and hope to see more people turn to EVs as they keep evolving into true transportation solutions.

Nexxt BMX frame
The nexXT BMX frame has been recently developed by the 4-id team to satisfy the very special needs of advanced BMX riders by being small, lightweight and very strong. The unique monocoque magnesium frame with fine machined details and housings doesn’t have any welds. This allows for high torsional strength, enhanced flex resistance and improved usable surface to allow the rider to develop advanced tricks with the frame.
Although the nexXT concept goes way beyond just a bmx frame, it is a test bench for applying new technologies that allow for innovative approaches on aesthetic objects with high structural requirements. This has been partly achieved using Grashopper, an advanced parametric design tool. Grasshoper provides swift and easy work-flow with multiple elements at once, allowing exploration of radically different solutions with ease. As a result, a complex structural matrix can be created, modified and optimised very quickly, changing any aspect of the styling or mechanics with ease.

Scartt 2 Tested by Quad&Jet Magazine…
Before 2010 came to an end, in the cold plains of Teruel, Spain, the magazine for recreational vehicles Quad & Jet made a thorough test drive of the new Scartt which will start selling in Europe within a couple of months. The place where the test drive took place is a well known test ground for Raids rider to come and train for events like the famous Dakar.
